Conservative PCC Candidate Craig Ulliott has shared ‘deep concern’ after the Humberside Police area was been ranked the one of the ‘most dangerous’ area to live in England and Wales.
According to Home Office figures, of the 42 Police Force Areas in England and Wales, Humberside Police was 5th ‘most dangerous’ in the country, with 83.3 crimes per 1000 people. Other areas in the top five include South Yorkshire with 83.9 crimes per 1000, West Yorkshire with 96.8, and Cleveland with 99.4.
5th place for Humberside is in stark contrast with its geographical neighbour, North Yorkshire, who is statistically the ‘Safest’ force area, ranked 42/42 with 45.8 crimes per 1000 people.
This comes after the latest local crime data shows that the the number of crimes reported in November 2020 was the highest November figure in recent years, and that approximately 1600 more offences were recorded in November 2020 than November 2019, despite the nationwide Tier 4 restrictions.
‘These figures are deeply concerning, and paint a troubling picture of the current state of Crime and Policing in the Humberside Police Area’
‘It is a scathing indictment, and clearly demonstrate that urgent work is needed to reduce criminal activity in our communities’.
‘The Police do a fantastic job, but we need a Police and Crime Commissioner who will make the reduction of crime a priority. We need an urgent shift in focus, and to give the officers the resources they need to prevent crime happening in the first place.’
